Today, September 11, marks a proud moment for Ukhiya’s media landscape as Ukhiya News steps into its 15th year of publication.
Launched in 2011 as the first online news portal of Ukhiya, Ukhiya News has been led since its inception by Executive Editor Sarwar Alam Shahin, former president of Ukhiya Press Club and Staff Reporter at Manabzamin. Faruk Ahmed, the portal’s News Editor, also serves as Member-Secretary of Ukhiya Press Club and reports for Bangladesh Betar, The Daily Observer, and Jaijaidin.
With everyone’s dedication and hard work, Ukhiya News has completed more than a decade and a half of its journey.
When online journalism was still in its infancy in Bangladesh, Ukhiya News began its pioneering work in this remote region with the guidance and support of S.M. Akter Uddin Chowdhury, Principal of Cox’s Bazar City College and Editor of Cox’s Bazar News. From the very beginning, it focused on covering local problems, public suffering, education, culture, and politics — bringing news to people as quickly as possible and becoming a true voice of the community.
Beyond information delivery, Ukhiya News has also acted as a catalyst for social change.
In its 15-year journey, Ukhiya News has not only earned the trust of its readers but also inspired a generation of young journalists. Despite challenges, obstacles, and technological limitations, it continues to thrive, thanks to the love and support of its audience.
But this achievement is not the end. As the flow of information grows and competition in online media intensifies, Ukhiya News is committed to moving forward with more objective and investigative reporting, prioritizing local development, safeguarding public interest, and strengthening its dedication to social responsibility.
