Farmers in Goalia village of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar are expecting higher profits from betel leaf cultivation this season, as the absence of storms and heavy rainfall has led to a bumper yield. Growers expressed satisfaction, as favourable weather conditions supported healthy plant growth.

Speaking recently, betel leaf farmer Kabir Ahmed said there were no major storms or heavy rains this season, preventing damage to the betel gardens. As a result, the plants grew well from root to leaf, producing larger, healthier yields.

“This season’s weather has been very favourable for us. With no major natural disasters, the plants have grown well. The larger the leaves, especially the sweet variety we cultivate, the better the price we get in the market,” he said.

He added that each plant produced more leaves than last year, raising hopes of better earnings due to improved size and quality.

Other local farmers shared similar experiences, saying that favourable weather and regular care contributed to increased production. This has created a sense of relief and optimism among growers across the village.

According to the local agriculture department, weather plays a crucial role in betel leaf cultivation. Excessive rain or strong winds can severely damage the gardens. However, favourable conditions like this season help boost production and improve farmers’ incomes.

Overall, farmers in Goalia village are considering this season successful and expect higher profits if market prices remain strong.
