Ramu Central Sima Mohabihar in Cox’s Bazar continues to attract visitors with its rich heritage spanning nearly three centuries. Established in 1706, the ancient Buddhist monastery is known for its religious significance and as one of the country’s notable tourist attractions.
The historic vihara has long served as a center for religious practice for the Buddhist community. Over time, its architectural style and aesthetic appeal have been further enriched. Inside the complex are beautifully crafted Buddha statues, intricately designed prayer halls, and a serene environment that offers visitors a sense of calm.
According to locals, travel enthusiasts from across the country visit the vihara year-round. During the holidays, the number of visitors increases significantly, with many coming with family and others drawn by their interest in history and religion. Md Hasnat, hailing from Chattogram, remarked on the remarkable preservation of such an ancient vihara. He noted that the place offers a unique sense of mental peace.
Local businesspeople said the growing number of visitors has boosted the area’s economy, and residents have welcomed the development positively.
Tourism stakeholders believe that with proper preservation and modern facilities, this historic site in Ramu could become even more attractive to international tourists.
Combining religious heritage, ancient history, and aesthetic architecture, Ramu Central Seema Vihara stands not just as a place of worship but as an important part of the country’s cultural heritage, continuing to draw people across generations.
