A rare and striking white flower has recently bloomed on cactus plants amid bushes in the Reju Khal area along the Marine Drive road in Cox’s Bazar, drawing attention from locals.
Although it resembles a dragon flower, it is actually a cactus species known as the night-blooming cereus.
This flower typically blooms at night and remains visible for only a short time. Its large size, white petals, and a light yellow center make it especially eye-catching. It is also popularly referred to as the “Queen of the Night.”
A resident of the Rezu Khal area, Hamid, said the cactus plants had been growing naturally in the bushes for a long time but had only recently come into focus after blooming.
The flower’s soft texture and mild fragrance have added a unique charm to the surroundings.
Nature enthusiasts highlight an important aspect of local biodiversity by noting the rarity of such flowers in the Cox’s Bazar region. It could also become a new tourist attraction.
Environmentalists believe that preserving such natural beauty requires joint efforts from both local authorities and residents. They have urged caution during clearing or development work not prevent damage not these plants.
