Rupai Canal, once a large and deep waterway in Mognama, Pekua of Cox’s Bazar, is gradually losing its vitality and shrinking in size. The canal, which once had a natural, steady flow, now struggles to support local fishermen.

Mohammad Kalim Bahadur, a fisherman who has relied on the canal for years, said Cox’s Bazar Life that he used to catch up to 2 kg of fish in just an hour.

“Now it is difficult to catch even a single fish after an entire day of effort. The decline of Rupai Canal began following the devastating cyclone of 1991,” he added.
