A ban on fishing in Cox’s Bazar maritime zone is currently in effect to protect the mother hilsa. As a result, fishing trawlers remain idle. However, the fishermen are not entirely out of work. To meet the demand for fish, they have turned to the small rivers and canals near the sea, where they are catching them. Many supplement their family’s needs by selling excess in local markets.

Cox’s Bazar Life’s Photojournalist Hussain Shetu captured these photos from Reju Canal near Pechar Dwip.
