After a long wait, Bangladesh’s seasonal fishing ban—enforced by the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute to protect Mother Hilsa—is just eight days from lifting. The Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute keeps fishermen off the waters during this annual period to support sustainable fishing. With the end in sight, fishermen are busy repairing their boats and trawlers. Some, like the pictured “Moon Boat,” have already prepared for the sea journey ahead. Mohammad Mofiz, a boatman, shared, “In just eight days, we’ll head back into the restless sea to earn our livelihood.”
