A new surfing club in Cox’s Bazar has caught everyone’s attention with its unique identity—‘No Dorai’ Surfing Club. Bangladesh’s first surfing-themed film, No Dorai, which was released on November 29, 2019, inspired the name.

The production house behind No Dorai explains that the name is more than just a film title—it represents a movement, a symbol of fearlessness.

From Cinema to a Surfing Club

The film No Dorai tells the real-life story of a brave female surfer who defied social and familial barriers to become a surfing icon. Despite being produced in the Chattogram dialect, the film’s powerful message resonated with viewers nationwide. The film even garnered international recognition after screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

The decision to name the club after the film drove the desire to spread the film’s core message—conquering fear—among surfers of all ages.

The club’s lead organizer stated, “Through ‘No Dorai’ Surfing Club, we are not just teaching young people how to surf but also instilling courage and confidence. This is more than a training center—it’s a place of inspiration.”

More than just a club, ‘No Dorai’ has become a symbol of resilience and empowerment—a driving force in advancing the surfing culture of Cox’s Bazar and beyond.
