Farmers in Pechar Dwip are busy applying fertiliser to rice plants and clearing weeds from their fields. In coastal areas of Cox’s Bazar, saline farmland often remains uncultivated during the dry season. Monsoon rainwater temporarily washes away or reduces excess salt in the topsoil, creating an opportunity for cultivation. Taking advantage of this seasonal change, farmers grow BRRI dhan52, a rice variety suited to flood-prone areas, hoping for a good harvest within a relatively short growing period.
