Sabuktageen Ahmed Jengi from Cox’s Bazar has been awarded the prestigious UK government-funded Chevening Scholarship, one of the world’s leading fully funded programs for future leaders. Established in 1983, Chevening enables exceptional individuals worldwide to pursue master’s studies in the UK.

This year, 22 Bangladeshis have received the award, with Sabuktageen being the only recipient from South Chattogram — a proud moment for Cox’s Bazar.

The eldest son of Gias Uddin Ahmed Jengi and grandson of the late Abul Ahmed Master, Sabuktageen, completed his SSC at Cox’s Bazar Government Boys’ High School, HSC at Notre Dame College, and a civil engineering degree from CUET.

Since 2015, he has been engaged in humanitarian work for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, starting with UNHCR in shelter and WASH design, later taking on roles in fundraising, coordination, and government liaison.

Most recently, he worked with the Inter-Sector Coordination Group (ISCG) to oversee refugee response operations.

He will now pursue a Master’s in International Development, Conflict, and Humanitarian Action at the University of Bath.

Sabuktageen said that Chevening is not just an academic scholarship — it is an investment in people who can drive positive change in their countries and beyond.

Being selected as a Chevening Scholar from Cox’s Bazar and representing Bangladesh on a global platform is a tremendous honor

‘After completing my studies, I am committed to returning home and using the knowledge and experience I gain to bring meaningful change — especially for the people of Cox’s Bazar and Bangladesh,’ he added.
