An intriguing fishing method has caught the attention at Himchari near Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive Road. Residents of Mongla Para, Mohammad Anwar, skillfully employed a unique technique to catch fish on the sandbanks emerging from the sea. He said that he uses a plant known as the “mel tree,” commonly found in the hilly forests of the region. He crushes the tree branches to extract a natural sap, which he then disperses into the water. The sap affects the fish, causing them to become agitated and disoriented. The fish frantically dart around, unable to stay in the water, eventually trapping themselves in strategically placed nets.
