Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar has recorded bumper salt production this season, with local salt farmers attributing the increase to favorable weather and rising temperatures.

Farmers said the prolonged absence of rainfall and consistently high temperatures have helped salt pans dry faster, significantly boosting production. As a result, they also expect higher profits than in previous years.

Md. Mizanur Rahman, an officer of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in Teknaf, said salt is being cultivated on about 4,550 acres of land this season, about 500 acres more than last year.

He added that the production target for this season has been set at 27.35 lakh metric tonnes. Farmers have been provided training and necessary guidance to produce high-quality boulder salt.

He expressed optimism, saying that if favourable weather conditions continue and rainfall remains low for an extended period, salt production could potentially double the set target.
